What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis that dates back almost 150 years. With its roots in modern medicine osteopathy developed as a drug free system which places great importance on the link between the structures of the body and the way it functions. Osteopathic practice relies on a thorough understanding of anatomy and the workings of the human musculo-skeletal system and the nervous system that co-ordinates it.

Using their highly developed sense of touch the osteopath is able to detect areas of joint resistance and muscular stiffness that are causing the symptoms It has been shown that careful manipulation of the joints of the body brings about changes in the blood flow and nerve supply around that area. This allows for more rapid tissue healing and a reduction in pain.
